Provisioning Ecosystem Services of Wild Plants Collected From Seminatural Habitats: A Basis for Sustainable Livelihood and Multifunctional Landscape Conservation

چکیده

Wild plants from seminatural habitats (meadows, pastures, shrubland, etc) provide numerous ecosystem services (ESs). However, because of land abandonment and reforestation processes, these the ESs provided by them are declining. The aim this study was to identify how local people benefit collecting wild habitats, in order link identified with conservation practices. research based on a survey 85 inhabitants Pieniny Mountains (Poland). results showed that 89% respondents regularly collected for different reasons. most common gained activity were natural medicine, direct consumption, food. Furthermore, particular species have crucial meaning some ESs, such as food, cosmetic purposes. For others, decoration, ritual purposes, or forage, only specific parts types plants, flowers, herbs, grasses, desirable, regardless species. In terms households, 38% used an additional source livelihood. Promoting engagement activities more adapted current economic situation (eg ecotourism selling processed plant products) may be good solution using profitably (serving basis livelihood), combined grassland conservation.

Multiple ecosystem services landscape index: a tool for multifunctional landscapes conservation.

The contribution of ecosystems to human well-being has been widely recognised. Taking into account existing trade-offs between ecosystem services (ES) at the farm scale and the dependence of multiple ES on processes that take place at the landscape scale, long-term preservation of multifunctional landscapes must be a priority. Studies carried out from such perspective, and those that develop ap...

Conservation Planning for Ecosystem Services

Despite increasing attention to the human dimension of conservation projects, a rigorous, systematic methodology for planning for ecosystem services has not been developed. This is in part because flows of ecosystem services remain poorly characterized at local-to-regional scales, and their protection has not generally been made a priority. We used a spatially explicit conservation planning fra...

Conservation and livelihood outcomes of payment for ecosystem services in the Ecuadorian Andes_ What is the potential for ‘win–win’?

Payment for ecosystem services programs are being implemented in a wide variety of settings, but whether and in what contexts such programs present ‘win–win’ scenarios that simultaneously improve human wellbeing and achieve conservation goals remains poorly understood. Based on semi-structured interviews with early program participants enrolling either collectivelyor individually-held land, we ...
